The copywriter’s on the Regal web page wax eloquent, if not a little immodestly when they describe the Regal 1900 as “A shining example of Regal's mastery of design and construction. Consider the styling, comfort, function, performance and quality of the 1900 LSR. You will find no compromises have been made.” They also extol the luxury of the plush bucket seats... A family-owned firm, Regal has been building motor boats - from runabouts to 41 foot Express Cruisers in their Orlando, Florida factory for the past 30 years. When this boat was commissioned the hardest part was the request was that I place the owner and his wife in it. Now as any modelmaker will tell you the hardest thing to carve on any model is the human figure - at least to get it to look any good at all and many
modelmakers, myself included, often come to grief on that... Well, I decided to get some help, so I prowled the toy sections of a dozen local stores and finally discovered these two "fighter pilots" standing by their aircraft. They are complete with helmets, pressure suits and guns that are the right scale.
When I get them home, I discover that one of the pilots just happens to be a women - which saved some work... I junk the aircraft, then I start grinding away with a milling cutter chucked into the Dremel. Grinding away the helmet and pressure suits. Finally after more hours than I wish to count working away with the Dremel, a knife, wire armatures and epoxy - I finally convert the pilots into "Gary" & "Donna" - complete with sun tans, a peaked cap and long blond hair.
Now I hear you asking: " Why the The Four J's?" Well, as it was explained to me, the first names of both the owner's daughters as well as the daughters' husbands, all start with the letter J...
