In 1965, American Marine first started building the Grand Banks 32 in wood at their Hong Kong yard. Since then, nearly a 1000 copies of this popular trawler yacht have come down the ways in Hong Kong and in the newer Singapore yard where the later fiberglass version is built.

Dependable and seaworthy, the Grand Banks 32 has proved a very popular cruising boat with a high re-sale value. An economical diesel provides hours of 7-knot cruising using less than 3 gph, giving the boat a cruising range of more than 500 miles. The mast and boom allow the rigging of a steadying sail in rough weather.

Of course, the hardest part of this yacht was the blue “spray dodger”. I had to make three of them before I got it right. I also had to scrape the first one off the ship and haul it back out of the bottle when the glue set up and left it crooked. Needless-to-say there wasn’t much room to work. Even though it was a 40 ounce bottle, once that spray dodger was in, there was very little room left!
