Please Note: While I do try to keep these pages updated, I cannot guarentee the content of these sites. Unfortunately, as one Australian librarian pointed out (Thanks Darryl! Much appreciated!) , some of the defunct .com addresses (especially one formerly run by a well-known Norwegian shipping company) have been grabbed by some rather unsavory sites - which results in a very unpleasant shock when you are looking for shipping company data....

With these links you can travel the shipping lanes of the world from Japan to Australia, Lithuania, South Africa, Great Britain and beyond. Discover the difference between a wood chip carrier and an LNG tanker; find out what VLCC means. And, if you are looking for photos and particulars of merchant ships, here is where to start. Most of the companies proudly display photos and particulars of their shipping fleet. Just look under "Fleet", "Press Releases"(often announcing new ships launched), "Company History", "News", etc.

U.S. Merchant Marine Academy
U.S. Maritime Administration has a gallery of American ship photos as well as a series of articles on the history of the American Merchant Marine in WWII
