The Maersk Tempo is a Strider Class container ship owned by Sea Containers Ltd. of Hamilton, Bermuda. At the time the model was constructed, the ship was leased to A.P. Møller & Co., Copenhagen, Denmark operators of the Maersk Line. With a container capacity of only 332, 20 ft. containers, the Maersk Tempo is a relatively small container ship.
The containers are loaded over the hinged ramp on the stern quarter and stacked using the 30-tonne capacity rolling gantry crane. 12 of the 20 ft. units may also be truck trailers which are stowed behind and under the accommodation.
Today, A.P. Møller & Co.is a leading player in world-wide container shipping. The company, besides it's tanker operations, currently operates some 70 containerships, including the world's largest containership the Regina Maersk. With a cargo capacity of 6,000 containers this new ship is the first in class of twelve being delivered to Maersk from the Odense Shipyard.
